About

Independent research on Australian industry, energy and emissions

Published research is self-directed and is not presented on behalf of a client. We describe commissioned work separately. Where the work is confidential, we describe what we did without naming the client.

What Heliovulcan does

What we analyse

Research

Independent, self-directed research

  • National emissions inventory
  • Facility-level energy and emissions modelling
  • Mining and remote energy
  • Industrial decarbonisation
  • Government policy and energy-transition analysis
  • Early-stage project and financeability screening
Commissioned work

Commercial work is described by capability, not by client name

Most commissioned work is done under confidentiality, so it is described by field rather than by client or project. Public examples show selected methods and non-confidential outputs. We do not publish confidential sources, internal scoring or client opportunity assessments. We identify the main gaps before detailed engineering or formal due diligence begins. Our work does not replace either process.

Who the work is for

The decisions it supports

Different readers use the analysis for different decisions: proceed, investigate further, redesign or stop.

WhoDecision supported
Asset owner or operator Understand current energy use, emissions and asset control before planning a change
Project developer Identify site constraints and missing evidence, then decide whether the concept deserves further work
Investor, lender or adviser Screen an asset or project for exposure, and decide what needs formal due diligence
Government or industry body Understand facility, sector or portfolio patterns from reconciled public evidence

Evidence

How we check the work

We start with reported records rather than an estimate. We combine each facility’s regulatory filings, licences and company disclosures into one account, then check it against independently compiled sector and national data. We label calculated figures, unresolved questions and the limits of the evidence in everything we publish. See the research and evidence method →

Contact

Have a facility, project or policy question?

Send a short, non-confidential description of the facility, project, sector or policy question. An initial conversation is usually enough to tell whether public information can help. Some questions lead to published research; others become commissioned work.

What an answer looks like

What you get back

  • What public data shows, and how reliable each figure is
  • What the public data cannot show
  • The constraints and unanswered questions that could change the decision
  • Data to request from the owner, where needed
  • A recommended next step, including stopping if the evidence does not support further work

We do not provide EPC design, legal, tax or financial advice, investment recommendations, lender due diligence or bankable feasibility studies.

Useful context for a site question

  • Site type and the decision you are facing
  • Annual electricity use or diesel consumption, approximate
  • Current energy or fuel cost and rough load pattern

None of it is required to start; a research, sector or policy question needs none of it.
